Choosing a name is one of the best and most stressful parts about preparing for a new baby! Luckily, I figured out how to do it after the first one. There’s no simple science, because it’s hard, but it helps.
First, sit down with your partner and talk about types of names you like and dislike. For instance, I didn’t like basic names and he doesn’t like overly unique names and we couldn’t have the first name rhyme with our last name.
Go on pinterest and look at names, just to get some inspiration. After doing this I realized I love names that end in -ey (for a girl) and we also liked an L in the name somewhere. From this I pulled out Hadley, Hartley, Kinsley, Presley, Everly and Amberly. Unfortunately, none of them stuck out to my husband.
Use the internet as much as possible. I used a site called magicbabynames.com which suggests names based off of what you type into their search bar.
Once you have a list put together of names you like, look it up on the social security website and see what it’s ranked and if it’s in an upward trend! This helped eliminate a lot names for us because I wanted some element of uniqueness.
The right name will come in time so what ever you do, don’t settle. We found our son’s name when we saw a commercial for Taken 3 and we found our daughter’s name while watching Teen Wolf (but we are still keeping our options open).
I hope you found these tactics at all useful! If there is anything a missed, drop a comment below! Thanks for reading!
